Abrasion is a mechanical wear of the tooth caused by forces other than those of the chewing.
The most frequent causes of abrasion are:
- Toothbrush with hard bristles, used with an abrasive toothpaste
- Horizontal brushing
- Excessive pressure exerted during the brushing
- Bad customs (objects placed between the teeth such as nails, bobby pins, pins, pipe, etc.)
The gingival receding often precedes abrasions.
